After the success of the 2007 AJ3 “Flip” release, Jordan Brand revisited the unique design with a black Jordan 3 Retro “Flip” colorway in 2011. Like the first Jordan 3 Flip, the iconic Elephant Print originally placed on the heel and toe surround by Tinker Hatfield is ditched in favor of tumbled leather. Instead, the upper panels including the toebox and sides are finished in a black Elephant Print. The all black upper also features smooth leather on the tongue and a soft leather grey inner lining give the AJ3 Flip a luxurious feel. The black midsole rests atop of a grey outsole while a metallic silver Jumpman logo rests on the tongue. The primarily black “Flip” colorway gave those who liked the “Black Cat” Jordan 3 from 2007, a new option with more premium materials on one of the most iconic sneakers to ever come from the Tinker Hatfield and Michael Jordan partnership. Like the first Jordan 3 Retro “Flip” colorway, the black version was met with polarizing responses. It seems, you either love it or hate it. But looking at the asking prices, it seems more people fall into the latter category when it comes to the black Jordan 3 Retro “Flip” colorway.
