The designers of the original 990 were tasked with creating the best running shoe on the market. The Made in USA 990v6 embraces this original mandate with a series of performance-oriented updates. The upper eliminates the standard midfoot saddle, allowing the suede and synthetic overlays to flow from the heel to the toes over the mesh base, creating a fast, streamlined look. While the revamped design represents one of the most dramatic changes from one model generation to the next that the 990 has ever experienced, the biggest leap forward occurs on the inside. The added cushioning of the FuelCell midsole means that the evolution of the 990 is not only visible but also palpable. New Balance Made in USA shoes contain a domestic value of 70% or more. Made in USA accounts for only a limited portion of New Balance's US sales.
